John Galliano's spring/summer 2010 haute couture collection for Christian Dior










I really don’t know what to think about a certain photo or runway look until I’ve written about it. It’s only then when I have dissected every thought that I can begin to see clearly. How I do this is by finding the reference points in my own mind and piece them together.

So here it goes.

My understanding of fashion, in particular Haute Couture, is supposed to be theatre, when does fashion become costume?

Dont get me wrong, I loved the hair for Christian Dior Haute Couture Spring/Summer 2010. This post is more about why I, as a hairdresser, like it. After all, this is a blog about hair.

First of all, the comeback of the snood. You know, that oversized hairnet thing that they're wearing.

Is this the very thin line that the hair (and make up) over shadowed the clothes? Or maybe I’m just looking at it through hairdresser eyes and cant distance myself enough.

Susan E. Meyer, in her book America's Great Illustrators did it best and most simply:

"She was taller than the other women currently seen in the pages of magazines infinitely more spirited and independent, yet altogether feminine.

She appeared in a stiff shirtwaist, her soft hair piled into a chignon, topped by a big plumed hat. Her flowing skirt was hiked up in back with just a hint of a bustle.

She was poised and patrician. Though always well bred, there often lurked a flash of mischief in her eyes."
